Mutual and complementary health insurance

Mutual and complementary health insurance

More than 95% of French people have a mutual insurance or health insurance contract. In addition to the reimbursement of the Social Security, a mutual insurance company takes care of all or part of the healthcare costs. Particularly care or consultation poorly reimbursed, such as glasses, prostheses or dental implants, consultations with the specialist doctor or with the physician applying fees overruns.

Three types of organizations offer health contracts in France:

  • Mutual health insurance (more than 50% of the contracts subscribed)
  • The insurers (more than a quarter of the contracts subscribed)
  • Provident institutions
