Animal insurance:Whether you want to go on a weekend trip, go to work or take a walk in town, you may not be able to separate from your pet by taking public transport, Bring somewhere. The regulations are, however, often strict and vary from one to the other depending on the means of transport. Let’s make the point for your animals to travel with serenity.

Animal insurance:Dogs category 1 and 2

For the comfort and safety of all, dogs of category 1 are not allowed to use public transport, whatever they may be, and are also not allowed to be in the Premises open to the public, outside the public thoroughfare. They are dogs not registered in the herd book recognized by the ministry in charge of agriculture, animals that can be compared to the following breeds: Staffordshire Terrier, also called American Staffordshire Terrier, Mastiff and

Tosa.

Category 2 dogs (Staffordshire Terrier, also known as American Staffordshire Terrier, Mastiff and Tosa) have the right to take public transport if they are muzzled.

In the train

Sncf (TGV, TER, Intercity)

SNCF tolerates pets in the TGV, TER and Intercités. If your pet is less than 6 kg:

The ticket, in the three types of train, will cost you 7 €.
The animal must travel in a bag or basket with the following maximum dimensions: 45 cm x 30 cm x 25 cm.

On the other hand, if your pet weighs more than 6 kg:

The latter must be muzzled throughout the journey.
The ticket will be equal to 50% of the full fare of a second class ticket, even if you are traveling first.

You can book the train ticket of your dog, cat, ferret, parrot or even reptile and amphibian at the same time as yours in agency or on the internet. The ticket will be exchanged free of charge until the day before your departure and then with a 10% deduction during the period of validity of the ticket. It will also be refundable with in all cases a 10% withholding, until the end of the validity of the ticket.

Each traveler can travel with two dogs or two containers.

Be careful, however, the transport of your pet will be carried out subject to the agreement of the other passengers of the wagon. Otherwise, you may be asked to change places.

Please note that service dogs travel free of charge and that it is no longer necessary to book a free guide dog ticket. There is even no obligation to muzzle the animal as long as the owner is able to present the documents proving his guidance dog education.

IDTGV

Any animal less than 6 kg travels free of charge, the others will cost you an additional 35 euros for any trip.

Thalys

Two possibilities are available to you depending on the size of your pet:

Small animals must be transported in containers up to 55 cm x 30 cm x 30 cm, and travel free of charge.
For large pets you will have to buy a ticket at the “dog” rate, the price of which varies according to the route. They must be carried on the owner’s lap or kept on a leash and muzzled.

As with other trains, you may be asked to change places if the presence of your pet is inconvenient for other passengers.

The Thalys Neige et Soleil, on the other hand, accept no animals except guide dogs.

Eurostar

Only assistance dogs have the right to board the Eurostar. All other animals are prohibited.

By plane

The regulations vary greatly depending on which airline company you choose. Ryanair and EasyJet simply do not accept pets except guide dogs.

Air France

There are three solutions for a pet to travel by plane with Air France:

In the cabin, if the animal is less than 8 kg, including a bag or transport case. The dog or cat must be at least 15 weeks old and can only carry one animal per person and one animal per container. In the Economy class, the crate must be able to slide into the space under the seat in front of you.

In the hold, if the animal is between 8 and 75 kg. Be careful, however, because of the difficulty of breathing that stress can induce on them because of their morphology, the nose-up animals (pug, shih tsu, bulldogs, Persian cat …) do not have the right to travel in the hold. You can not carry more than 3 animals per person.

By cargo, if the weight of the animal and its cage exceeds 75 kg or if it is a category 2 dog.

In all three cases you will need to contact customer service at the time of booking your ticket to verify that the type of aircraft allows the transport of animals.

By car

Taxi

Most taxi companies do not accept pets, but you can turn to an animal taxi. The latter carry your dog, cat or NAC even if you are not part of the trip, and are therefore equipped with disinfected cages after each transport.

Carpooling

Many carpoolers generally accept pets. Just ask about their profile and their announcement, and why not contact them to get the heart of it.

Car rental

It all depends on the company. Some of them accept the transport of your pets on the strict condition that the vehicle is returned in the same condition as you received it.

Bus, subway and tram
Ouibus

Ouibus does not accept animals in the bus or in the hold, except for guide dogs.
Metro, Bus and Tram
It all depends on the city and the subway in which you are traveling! Most of the time, small animals can be transported in a crate or basket, but large dogs are often prohibited. They may be accepted if they are muzzled, but you should check with the company by calling or consulting their website. Attending dogs travel them, always free of charge.
Generally, the rules are the same between the bus, metro and tram network of the same city.
On a boat

Pets are generally accepted on all ferries. On the other hand, it is relatively more complicated for cruises since they usually travel to foreign countries. Ask the different companies, but there is little or no chance that they will accept your cat, dog or bird for health and safety reasons.
Abroad
Some countries are very strict in importing animals for hygiene and trafficking reasons. Here are some rules to follow when traveling abroad with your dog or cat.
In Belgium, Italy and Spain, the travel rules for pets in public transport are very close to France: small animals can travel in a bag or a crate, while the larger ones generally pay more . In the United Kingdom, dogs travel for free, whatever their size, by train, subway or bus. On the other hand, they are prohibited in inter-city bus lines like Megabus or National Express.
In any case, take care to inquire about the transport and importation of domestic animals in the country but also the city of destination.
