Uber Technologies:London Uber Drivers had to pass an English language tests
Uber
Technologies Inc. lost a decision on London’s transportation rules
requiring language tests for drivers, which could prevent 40,000 people
entering the industry over the next three years.

Judge
John Mitting ruled in favor of Transport for London on Friday, saying
that it is reasonable for “drivers to demonstrate the level of spoken
and written English proficiency.
Uber, however, won in other TfL rules with the judge reversing certain provisions of call centers 24 hours a day on 24 and driver’s insurance.

Uber,
based in San Francisco, wrestled with regulators around the world in
the technology of traditional taxi companies say they threaten its
existence.
In
London, Uber has won a lawsuit against TfL over the use of its
application as a meter before losing a case filed by drivers seeking
labor rights including minimum wage and holiday pay.

Uber said that even if he had won most of the points he would still appeal the part of the decision on language tests.

“This
is a very disappointing result for tens of thousands of drivers who are
going to lose their livelihoods as they can go on to write a test run,”
the company said in a statement.
“We
have always supported our knowledge of spoken English, but writing an
essay has nothing to do with communicating with passengers or having
them safely from A to B.”

Chief
Justice Travis Kalanick was filmed discussing with a driver about
compensation, and Uber was forced to investigate sexual harassment and
discrimination claims by a former employee.
He was criticized for appointing company experts to direct the probe.
